When you have seen all the top sites and monuments in Vinius another way to learn more about the city’s history is to take a trip to Trakai which is a adorably little settlement just about 28 kilometres from the centre of Vilnius. Here strategically placed in the middle of five beautiful lakes is a genuine archaic castle on water nearly 600 years old. This former capital of Lithuania is now a place for relaxation but also festivals of theatre and concerts. This castle is today one of the most visited historical and architectural site in Lithuania.
You can keep in shape in the gym at you hotel if it’s provided with one. But you may as well go for a jog in the parks around the city centre. When you are in some of the parks the presence of calmness and quietness will sure make you relaxed and enjoyed among the spreading threes while jogging. So use the parks whatever way you like.
A visit to the lovely and wonderful botanic garden is a must if interested in gardening or flowers. Strolling around here is really an experience; so don’t forget your camera. This very old botanic garden of Vilnius was founded for the first time in 1781 by Professor J.E. Gilibert (1741–1814). It now lies on 199 beautiful hectares containing more than 9 000 species of flora. The garden is a living thing so depending on what season you are visiting Vilnius the garden will make different expressions to be enjoyed.
F K Zalgiris is the name of the proudly Vilnius football team founded in 1947 and first named Dinamo to participate in the USSR championship, the present Zalgiris goes back to 1962. Now laying in the top of A league and participating in the the UEFA cup 2002-2005 it’s a good quality team. Another great football team is FC Vilnius first known as Šviesa and made their debut in the Lithuanian top division 2003.
